Vital Ireland, the Leopardstown-headquartered medical devices and healthcare group, has agreed to acquire Beechfield Healthcare, a Portlaoise-based care provider, subject to regulatory clearance announced 4 November 2026.
Beechfield Healthcare supplies community care equipment, acute care, decontamination, sleep medicine, CPAP devices, stairlifts and retail services to hospitals, community services, nursing homes, private healthcare providers and individual consumers across Ireland.
Key facts
- Beechfield Healthcare employs more than 40 people and posted a profit of €1.95 million in 2024, up from €942,098 the previous year
- Vital Ireland made a profit of €69.87 million for the financial year ending March 2025, up from €31.9 million in the prior year
- The combined group will serve healthcare providers across hospital, community and home care settings
- Founded in 1996, Beechfield specialises in community care equipment, rehabilitation, mobility aids and sleep medicine
- Vital Ireland employs around 300 people and operates subsidiaries including Fannin, Iskus and Medisource
Strategic Expansion in Community Healthcare
The acquisition reflects a strategic alignment with healthcare policy shifts, as medical services increasingly move from hospital settings to community and home-based care environments. The transaction would strengthen Vital subsidiary Fannin’s existing position in acute and community care by adding Beechfield’s capabilities in rehabilitation equipment and sleep medicine products.
Vital Ireland operates as a group offering products and services across medical devices, pharmaceuticals, science and community care. The group was previously owned by DCC and traded as DCC Healthcare before private equity firm Investindustrial acquired it last year. The company reported net assets of €67.9 million for the financial year ending March 2025.
Supporting HSE Strategy
Mark Coffey, chief executive of Vital Ireland, said the transaction aligns with the HSE Slaintecare strategy, which prioritises delivering care outside traditional hospital settings. “As more care is delivered outside of hospitals in line with the HSE Slaintecare strategy, healthcare providers need trusted partners who can deliver the products, services and support that patients rely on every day,” Coffey stated.
He added that Beechfield had built a strong reputation over many years and described the proposed acquisition as reflecting Vital’s ambition to become the partner of choice for healthcare providers supporting patients in homes and communities.
Trevor Flanagan, managing director at Beechfield, said joining Vital Ireland would provide access to additional resources and capabilities. “Beechfield has built its reputation over many years by serving our customers and the clinicians and carers who rely on us. Joining Vital Ireland will give us access to additional resources and capabilities, helping us meet growing demand for community and home-based healthcare solutions and serve customers more effectively across Ireland,” Flanagan said.
Until regulatory clearance is obtained, Vital and Beechfield will continue operating independently with no immediate changes to daily operations or to the Beechfield name. The combined entity would offer a broader portfolio of products and services to hospitals, nursing homes, healthcare providers and individual patients throughout Ireland.
