In 2008, he assumed leadership of the Absolute Hotel Limerick, where he remained for over 17 years. During that extended period, he guided the business through the economic recession, oversaw a successful refinancing and ultimately its sale in 2025. His tenure at Limerick Chamber saw him lead advocacy efforts on regional priorities including housing, infrastructure and preparations for the Ryder Cup 2027.

Strategic Focus on Service Excellence and Regional Growth

Appointed by MHL Hotel Collection partners John Lally and Paul Higgins, Hurley will oversee all operational aspects at the riverside hotel, including the award-winning River Bar & Restaurant, extensive conference and events facilities, and Energize Health Club.

“Hospitality is where my heart is. My time with Limerick Chamber was a privilege, but leading The Limerick Strand Hotel felt like coming home,” Hurley said. “The Strand is one of Limerick’s landmark hotels with a proud reputation for hospitality and service. My focus is to build on those strong foundations, support our team, enhance the guest experience, and ensure the hotel continues to play an important role in the city’s life.”

MHL Hotel Collection partners John Lally and Paul Higgins welcomed the appointment, noting that Hurley brings “an exceptional combination of hospitality expertise, commercial acumen and deep knowledge of Limerick and the wider Mid-West region.” They highlighted his proven track record in hotel leadership, team development and business performance as key factors in the selection.

His strategic vision for the property centres on people, service excellence and sustainable growth, with emphasis on preserving established strengths while continuously improving the experience for guests, staff and the broader community. The appointment comes as Limerick prepares for significant investment and the upcoming Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, creating opportunities for the hotel and the regional hospitality sector.
